The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wa East, Hon. Adamu Shaibu, has officially cut the sod for the construction of a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in Yaala Number 2 community.

The project, valued at approximately GH₵1,000,000 (One Million Ghana Cedis), will be fully funded through the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF). The contract has been awarded to Balifiama Enterprise, led by its CEO, Mr. Abu Balifiama, who also serves as the Wa East NDC Constituency Chairman. The project is scheduled for completion within eight months.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Adamu Shaibu revealed that the decision to site the facility in Yaala No. 2 was heavily influenced by the community’s rapid population growth and their own proactive efforts. Before the government’s intervention, community members had already pulled resources together to start building a health facility.

“The community didn’t just sit back and wait for the government; they took the initiative. This commendable effort triggered our decision to step in and support them with a modern, befitting health facility,” the DCE stated.

Hon. Shaibu also noted that the project fulfils   a core campaign promise made during the 2024 elections. He emphasized that the current administration is on a strict developmental trajectory, targeting the construction of two CHPS compounds per year, translating to eight new health zones across the Wa East District over a four-year tenure. He expressed optimism that alternative funding sources would complement the assembly’s budget to achieve this vision.

He urged residents to remain confident in the government’s commitment, assuring them that developmental projects would be distributed equitably across all communities in the district.

Sokuu Noela, the Senior Community Health Nurse for the Yaala Number Two CHPS zone, spoke to Pulung News about the severe challenges they currently face.

She revealed that the team operates out of a cramped, privately owned building generously loaned by a community member. The space limitations are so severe that vital medications cannot be stored safely, forcing staff to routinely refer patients to Funsi for basic care.

“Our current temporary structure serves a population of about 1,868 people. This new facility is desperately needed, and it will completely transform how we deliver healthcare here,” Noela shared.

Some residents expressed profound gratitude to both the DCE, Hon. Adamu Shaibu, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa East, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, for listening to their cries. The community members have pledged their full cooperation and physical support to the contractor to ensure the project is delivered on time and to the highest standards.
