Residents across the Wa East District are celebrating a major milestone in primary healthcare access following the completion and official commissioning of six new health projects in less than two years. The achievement marks a significant milestone in reducing travel times for emergency medical care and improving primary health delivery in predominantly rural communities.
Speaking at a grand commissioning ceremony attended by traditional leaders, health administrators, and community members, the Member of Parliament for Wa East, Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasew, commended the aggressive push to close healthcare gaps across the constituency.
Dr. Jasew recalled that under national policy guidelines set by President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, each district assembly in Ghana was tasked with constructing a minimum of two Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds annually using allocations from their District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). However, strategic resource management and close collaboration between the Member of Parliament and the District Chief Executive allowed Wa East to double that mandate.
Dr. Jasew extended special praise to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Adamu Shaibu, highlighting his proactive use of the Assembly’s funds. Through careful budgeting, the DCE successfully delivered four CHPS compounds within the 24-month period.
Furthermore, joint lobbying efforts between the MP’s office and the DCE created the opportunity to add an additional facility in the Tuasa community and Loggu, pushing the total count from four to six completed projects.
In addition to municipal assembly projects, Dr. Jasew personally stepped in to finance and finalize the long-awaited children’s and maternity ward at Loggu, a project originally initiated by community members. Beyond constructing physical structures, the lawmaker provided a comprehensive range of essential medical equipment to ensure the newly commissioned sites could begin operating and serving patients immediately upon opening.
“Constructing walls is only half the battle,” Dr. Jasew stated during his address. “Without functional diagnostic tools, beds, and basic medical apparatus, these facilities cannot fulfil their purpose. My commitment is to ensure our health workers have what they need to deliver dignified, quality care right here in Wa East.”
Looking toward the future, Dr. Jasew outlined a multi-phase vision aimed at decentralizing specialized medical services across Wa East. He revealed that negotiations are actively underway with the Ministry of Health and relevant government agencies to upgrade both the Loggu and Bulenga Health Centres into fully functional polyclinics. Once realized, these upgrades will significantly reduce the need for residents to travel long distances to regional capitals for secondary medical attention.
Additionally, the lawmaker offered reassurances regarding stalled works in the constituency, noting that advanced administrative preparations are in place for the government to resume and complete the flagship Agenda 111 hospital project located in the Wa East District capital.
Dr. Jasew urged the chiefs and citizens of Wa East to maintain strong support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, emphasizing that ongoing developmental projects demonstrate the party’s unwavering dedication to rural transformation and human resource development.
