UWR: 250 DRUMS OF CHEMICALS SUSPECTED TO BE SODIUM CYANIDE BUSTED, REGIONAL COMMANDER, DCOI JUSTICE BOSOMTWI-AYENSU SANCTIONED A 24/7 MANNING OF ALL KNOWN UNAPPROVED ROUTES

The intelligence mechanism is activated to fish out persons who're complicit in the illegality.

In a press release signed by the Upper West Regional Public Affairs Officer, Ghana Immigration Service, Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul-Mumin Seidu, About 250 drums of chemicals suspected to be sodium cyanide were seized along the Black Volta Lake bordering Burkina Faso.

On Wednesday, 16th July, 2025, the vigilant Immigration Service personnel on a routine patrols along the unapproved routes around the black Volta lake bordering neighbouring Burkina Faso busted Two-Hundred and Fifty [250] drums containing  chemicals suspected to be sodium cyanide. The illicit contraband cache was intercepted during routine patrols led by the OIC for the Nadowli District Command Bertrand Dery around Zukpiri.

At exactly 1345HRS, the resilient personnel discovered the consignment at the bank of the Black Volta lake ostensibly ready to be transported into Burkina Faso. The cache was collected and transported to the Nadowli police station for safe keeping, examination, and further action.

As part of a strategy to police the borders, particularly, the unapproved routes, the Upper West Regional Commander, DCOI JUSTICE BOSOMTWI-AYENSU sanctioned a 24/7 manning of all the known unapproved routes while routine patrols is also actively in motion.

As an agency clothed with the mandate of ensuring secured borders, we cautioned the general public to desist from any form of cross-border related crime [s]. Any unrepentant individual who stands our way shall become the way. The few recalcitrant persons whose livelihood is dependent on activities of illegality on our territorial borders must either stop or be stopped; there are no ‘Ifs’ or ‘Buts’.
