“Kayaaye” is not an option – GNTDA Funsi Zone Chairperson to Graduates

According to her, "Kayaaye" is not an option, indicating that it should be a thing of the past in their lives.

The chairperson of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association, Funsi zone, Madam Elizabeth Kundie, has urged 27 graduates who was passing out to be confident and determined to face the future with their achievements and to build on them whenever necessary.

According to her, “Kayaaye” is not an option, indicating that it should be a thing of the past in their lives.

While congratulating them, Madam Elizabeth said the world is waiting for them to showcase the talents they have acquired over the years during their apprenticeship.

Madam Elizabeth Kundie made this known in her welcome address at the passing out ceremony of 27 dressmakers at the forecourt of Funsi Community centre on Tuesday.

In another development, Madam Elizabeth Kundie mentioned that the association has helped prevent young girls from resorting to “Kayaaye” by encouraging them to learn a trade in the Funsi area and beyond.

She also stated that the association has fostered unity among tailors and dressmakers in the zone.

Madam Kundie added that the association has acquired some chairs and canopies, which they rent to the communities for events such as durbars or funerals.

The chairperson also lamented that many parents do not support or encourage their wards to learn the trade. She hinted that parents do not visit their wards at their various workplaces, which she believes discourages many girls, leading them to run away.

Madam Elizabeth Kundie also encouraged parents to enroll their male wards in tailoring, adding that dressmaking is not solely for females.
