The people and chief of Sawuobe in the Bufiama electoral area in the Wa east district made a passionate call to the district authorities and government to assist them complete a stalled community initiated health facility.
Speaking to Pulung news the unit committee chairman for the area, Mr. Wiavogun Mathew said members of the community mobilized their own resources, secured a land and initiated the project.
“We have constructed the foundation, we have over three thousand building blocks, but we have no funds to continue. We can’t even complete it because it is a big project.

According to Wiavogun, the distance from Sawuobe to Tinniabe is a little bit far and during rainy season malaria cases are always high in the Sawuobe community. He stated that most pregnant women are forced to deliver at home when they are due for delivery due to the distance of the health facility.
Mr. Wiavogun Mathew mentioned that the issue of home delivery and high malaria cases have necessitated their move to mobilize funds to start the health project themselves while waiting for government.
“We want to appeal to government to take up the project and award to a contractor to complete it for us. The little resources we can provide is what we have done. That is the most important project for us,” the committee member said.
He also stated that the project would take years to complete if government or non- governmental organizations do not take it up.
The community presently is planning to convert a dilapidated structure to a Community-based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) compound for health care delivery while they wait for the completion of the stalled initiated health facility.
