Wiyaala launches the Historic “Pulung” Light Festival in Funsi!

"I encourage all my fans across the globe to grab their tickets! Come and witness the brightness of our culture and the power of our music." Wiyaala

Wiyaala, the incomparable “Lioness of Africa,” is bringing a literal and metaphorical spark to the Upper West Region. On January 15, 2026, the town of Funsi will glow with the debut of the Pulung Festival – the first musical extravaganza of its kind to unite the entire region.

In the local dialect, Pulung means “Brightness” or “Light.” True to its name, Wiyaala is initiating this festival to shine a light on the incredible talent, culture, and spirit of the Wa East District.

The Pulung Festival isn’t just a concert; it’s a movement. Hosted at the Wiyaala Art Centre, the festival has been designed by the international star to achieve a powerful mission:

  • Foster Unity: Bringing the people of Wa East together in celebration
  • Promote Culture & Tourism: Showcasing the rich heritage of the region to the world
  • Women Empowerment: Inspiring the next generation of female leaders and creators
  • Nurturing Talent: Providing a massive platform for underground artists to realize their dreams and find their voice.

The stage will be buzzing with global and local energy. Headlining the night are Wiyaala and the Yagayaga’s, her official band members who are travelling all the way from Slovenia to bring their world-class sound to Funsi!

Artists expected to perform Includes: The Yagayaga’s and the Chinchiga Band, Best Gally, Saadia, Samson B, Iron Bwoy, Apaco, F-Bwoy, and B-Prince, The Savage Dancers, Boys and Girls Club Funsi, Traditional performances by the Gorchiga and Kyansia Dance Troops, and Laugh out loud with Funsi’s very own D.K.K.

This event will be graced by esteemed dignitaries, including the Chiefs and Landlords of the Wa East District and the Funsi Traditional Area. In a beautiful display of inclusivity, the festival will also host women’s groups, religious leaders, children’s groups, and persons with disabilities, ensuring that the “Light” of Pulung reaches everyone.

“I encourage all my fans across the globe to grab their tickets! Come and witness the brightness of our culture and the power of our music.” Wiyaala
