Thomas Mornah, the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics at Wa Senior High School, located in the Upper West Region, has earnestly urged the Parents-Teachers Association, philanthropists, and government officials to assist the institution by providing a classroom block with 18 units.
This new facility is essential to accommodate the increasing number of students and facilitate effective teaching and learning. In his appeal, Mr. Mornah noted that currently, the school has more than 50 classrooms, each holding between 60 to 70 students, which far exceed the recommended capacity of 45 students per classroom.
He made this known during PTA meeting held in the school on Saturday.
Highlighting the school’s need for additional space, Mr. Mornah attributed the surge in student enrolment to the remarkable achievements of students in the West African Certificate of Secondary Education (WACCE) examinations. Each year, the school sees improvements in its academic performance, which has significantly increased its popularity among parents seeking quality education for their children.
Additionally, Mr. Mornah has urged parents to ensure their children’s timely attendance at school following breaks. He expressed concerns over some parents’ lack of diligence in ensuring that their children return to school promptly upon reopening.
The school swank a teaching staff of over 160 and non-teaching staff of over 60, along with 19 volunteers, and currently serves a student population of approximately 2,400.
