Wa East to benefit from Mahama’s farmer service center initiative

Farmers he said will be given farm machinery such as tractors, harrows, and plows to make farming easy.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of Wa east constituency in the Upper West region that he will create farmer service center for the District when elected president come 7th December.

During a mini-rally held in Funsi community as part of his campaign tour in the Upper West Region, Mr. Mahama made the promise of creating a farmer service center.

According to the former president of Ghana, the next NDC government under his leadership will set up farmer service centers in all 275 constituencies including the Wa east district.

Farmers he said will be given farm machinery such as tractors, harrows, and plows to make farming easy.

He further added that beyond the machinery that will be provided, they will also help farmers with farm inputs and all the services that the farmers will need for a successful agricultural production.

Mr. John Mahama has also revealed that they will support farmers with fertilizers; improve seeds, weedicides and pesticides under the farmer service centers program.

“But beyond the tractors, you will also have fertilizer, you will have improve seeds, you will have weedicides and pesticides everything you need, will be at the center, that’s why we don’t call it mechanization centers, we call it farmers service center,  this is because it offers all the services that farmers need, to be able to do successful agriculture”

The chiefs and elders of the Sissala enclave, who were excited about his visit, honored him with a smock.

The Wa east district is entirely rural hence an agrarian economy. The economy of Wa East is regarded as agrarian, largely due to the district’s contribution to the regional food basket and labour absorption.

The district is also known for crop farming, tree growing, livestock rearing and

fish farming.
