Wa East: Plan International Ghana with CDA launches PROTECT project to protect girls and young women

“Today we are here to launch our Plan International project known as PROTECT project. This project aims at ensuring that the community environment is safe for every child, adolescent, as well as youth, especially the females,” Sulemana Gbana said.

Plan International Ghana, a renowned non-governmental organisation providing humanitarian services in Ghana, in partnership with Community Development Alliance based in Upper West Region has launched an innovative project to protect girls and young women in the Upper West region, specifically in the Wa East district.

The project, dubbed “Promoting Resilience, Opportunity, and Equity for Children and Adolescents Through Transformation” (PROTECT), aims to create a safe environment for children, adolescents, and youth, particularly girls and young women, free from all forms of abuse, including sexual and gender-based violence.

Sulemana Gbana, Northern Program Influencing and Impact Area Manager, shared insights into the project’s concept with Pulung fm.

“Today we are here to launch our Plan International project known as PROTECT project. This project aims at ensuring that the community environment is safe for every child, adolescent, as well as youth, especially the females,” Sulemana Gbana said.

He further stressed that “for children to strive very well, they need to be protected wherever they find themselves, at the family level, at the community level, at the school, and even beyond the school.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Community Development Alliance (CDA) Mr. Salifu Kanton, addressing the participants cautioned the project officers and the Volunteers not to deviate from the purpose of the project by proposing love to each other during their field work. Adding that such action will defeat the purpose of the project.

Community Development Alliance CDA will lead the whole project implementation in collaboration with the district level and child protection agencies as well as the assembly and the communities in the Wa east.

The District Chief Executive for Wa East, Adamu Shaibu declare his support to the project and said when the protect project succeed the government of the day also succeeds.

He therefore called on other development partners to collaborate with the government’s efforts in resetting Ghana and the policies that prioritize the well-being and development of children, women, and adolescents in the Wa East district as the protect project sought to achieve.
