New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates on Saturday, December 2nd, went to various polling centres to cast their votes for their parliamentary candidates in orphan constituencies for the 2024 elections.
The elections were organised in constituencies where the NPP did not have sitting Members of Parliament.
The primaries were organised in some 111 constituencies nationwide. Except
In the Upper West Region, 8 orphan constituencies took part in the primaries, Wa Central, Wa East, Wa West, Sisaala West, Lawra, Jirapa, Nadowli-Kaleo and Daffiama Busie Issah constituency.
Four women who contested in the primaries, two lost to their contender while the other two narrowly escape defeat.
In the Wa Central Constituency Hajia Awudu Humu contested with Two men and won with 567 votes while the MCE lost with 441 votes and a first timer Issahaku Nayaaru also had 17 votes.
In the Jirapa Constituency, Aisha Salifu contested with the Municipal Chief executive and won with 364 votes while the MCE Hon. Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri lost with 332 votes.
Sisaala West Constituency the DCE, Hon. Aisha Batong Hor. also lost with 21 votes to Naliwie Baluwie Salifu who pull 299 votes.
James Kpirifaatey also won the primaries in the Wa West Constituency with 319 votes while the DCE Hon. Vida Diorotey lost with 232 votes. The former NPP regional communication officer Bukari Ali also lost with 143 votes.
The DCE of DBI Hon. Nadi Imoro Sanda won with 210 votes, also in the Wa East constituency the DCE hon. Ewurah Suleman Kandia won with 325 votes.
Jacob D. Dery who is the DCE also won with 186 votes in the Lawra Constituency while Stephen Engmen lost with 167 votes.
In the Nadowli Kaleo constituency, Francis Xavier Kambotuu went unopposed and was declared winner to represent the NPP in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency come 2024 elections.
