The First runner up for Jirapa Most Beautiful (JMB) 2023 Zorwele B. Marcellina with stage name Tietaar has taken bold steps to execute a life changing project dubbed ‘’Tietaar Clean Flow’’.
The Tietaar clean flow project aims to provide free sanitary pads to underserved girls and women in our community, promoting menstrual health, dignity, and well-being and breaking the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation.
Pulung news in an interview with Tietaar, she mentioned that Menstruation is a natural part of life, yet many girls and women in our communities faced significant barriers in managing their periods. Without access to affordable and reliable sanitary products, they resort to unhygienic methods, leading to health issues, absenteeism, and reduced productivity.
Tietaar emphasized that, The Tietaar clean flow” project will address a critical need in our municipality and the upper west region as a whole, promoting the well-being and empowerment of girls and women.
‘’Your donation will keep a girl child in school and presents a dynamic opportunity for female youth to build sustainable careers and livelihoods’’.
Globally, periods are causing girls to be absent from school. In Sub-Saharan Africa, one in ten girls miss school during their menstrual cycle. This equals as much as twenty percent of a given school year.
Meanwhile, women in rural areas cannot afford sanitary products which limits their social life, causes them to temporarily stop working, and prohibits them from social gathering. The lack of affordable sanitary pads among young women and girls in particular lead to much higher school absence and drop-out rates that in turn lead to further economic hardship and disempowerment.
