ASP Suleman Abubakari, the district police commander for Wa East, has made hints that violent extremism might easily flourish in the wake of unemployment, which is a major economic burden for the nation.
According to ASP Suleman, unemployed youth can easily be influence by extremist under the guise of political, religious and ideological objectives. ” It should be noted that radicals typically take advantage of the unemployment rate to persuade young people to adopt their viewpoint”.
Commander ASP emphasized that churches and mosques should be used to preach peace. He also urged the traditional authorities to enact bye-laws to deter people from committing crime in the country.

” Let’s not take our peace for granted. We must all preach peace, no one benefit from violence, let’s be each other’s keepers before, during and after the 2024 general election” he said.
ASP Suleman Abubakari also says that the Ghana Police generally is bent on ensuring violence free election during this year’s polls. He mentioned that the strategy to ensure peace before, during and after the election will replicate right from the national level down to regions, divisions, and to the districts.
He added that the police had a common road map as an administration to ensure that the elections are devoid of violence.
ASP Suleman assures the indigenes of Wa East that the district police command is fully prepared to ensure a peaceful conduct of polls this year.

He therefore called on the two major political parties in the district the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party to observe the rules of the game so that together they can ensure a peaceful election.

The meeting was organized by National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and funded by the European Union.
