Sissala East: Bawisibelle traditional area to introduce annual festival

This initiative not only speaks to the resilience and vision of the Bawisibelle people but also to their commitment to fostering a thriving community through cultural celebration.

The Bawisibelle traditional area, located in the Sissala East municipality of the Upper West region, is embarking on a cultural renaissance with the introduction of an annual festival led by the paramount chief, Kuoru Balugubanie Sakpara II, and his sub-chiefs.

This exciting development is a result of a thought-provoking proposal by Mr. Richmond Dombo, the acting registrar of the Bawisibelle traditional area and principal research officer of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs.

Mr. Dombo suggested that the establishment of an annual festival could serve as a catalyst for development, intending to drive economic progress, preserve the rich cultural heritage of the area, and enhance community cohesion.

The festival is expected to be a multifaceted event, showcasing the vibrant traditions of the Bawisibelle people. It aims to fortify community ties, promote cultural identity, and provide a platform for spiritual reflection.

The festival holds the promise of uplifting the area through economic opportunities, bringing attention to the need for improvements in infrastructure such as road networks, telecommunications, and access to potable water.

Kuoru Balugubanie Sakpara II, the paramount chief for the area, was impressed by the suggestion and ordered that subcommittees be formed right away to begin consultation and festival planning. He has encouraged the sub-chiefs to collaborate effectively in supporting these committees to ensure a successful celebration.
