Funsi senior high school in the Wa east district of the upper west region, which was established on January 15, 2014 with the Moto; hard work and perseverance has climaxed her ten years of existence on 10th august, 2024 at the school’s uncompleted assembly hall on Saturday.
The edifying co – pioneer second cycle institution climaxed the tenth anniversary under the theme; “Celebrating diversity”, highlighting the multiculturalism and inclusivity within the school’s community for academic excellence and the world of work.
In his welcome address the headmaster of the Funsi community senior high school Mr. Sulemani Dramani said the theme for the event was carefully selected to reflect on the diverse cultural backgrounds of the students, staff, and how the management, teachers and students collectively resolved to peacefully co-existence and to work assiduously to educate students so that they can acquire knowledge, skills, and attitude to become responsible and productive citizens in future.
Highlighting the academic performance of the school since its inception Mr. Sulemani said the school has improved steadily. According to him, the school presented its first batch of 125 candidates in 2016 with a percentage passed rate of 33%. In 2018 they presented 185 candidates with a passed rate of 17.3%, 2019 the school had 78% passed rate out of 140 candidates presented.
The passed rate he said increased from 78 to 98.6% in 2020 with total candidates of 210. He further stated that the school had 100% passed rate in 2021 with total candidates of 51. The school also presented 191 candidates with one absentee in 2022 with a passed rate of 98% with the best aggregate of 14 for boys and 22 for girls.
In 2023 the school again recorded 90% pass rate out of 88 candidates with aggregate 15 for boys and girls respectively.
Touching on co-curricular programmes, the headmaster said that the Funsi senior high school has been a force to reckon with not only in the area of sports but also culture.
According to Mr. Dramani since the inception of the school in 2014 it has never rested on it oars to participate in cultural and sports competitions. He mentioned that in 2017, the school pick up first position in inter school cross country, super zonal cross country, 800m and 1500m.
In the area of culture, the headmaster stated that in 2018, out of 22 schools that participated in the cultural competition at Loggu community day SHS, Funsi senior high school was second in the overall performance. The school he said was second in drum language, choreograph dance and third in poetry, cook art, and sewing.
Mr. Sulemani Dramani hinted that with the inconsistent performance of students at the WASSC and other areas, management, staff, and students have resolved to redouble their effort to improve the academic outcome of the students.
He mentioned that the school intend to introduce a number of interventions such as extra classes for weak academic students, strengthen guidance and counselling services, intensify monitoring and supervision of both teachers and students and also organize in-service training for teachers to sharpens their knowledge and skills.
The headmaster called on all stakeholders, board members, parent association and the student body to support the intended interventions to be feasible when implemented for the growth of the senior high school and the students as well.
Three brilliant past students who had aggregate 14 and 15 were awarded. The pioneer headmaster of the school Mr. Luke Begyil, the first district director of education for Wa east madam Dominca Dassah, and Lawyer Abu Juan were given weaver cloth and citation each for their relentless efforts in supporting the school to reach its current status.
The event saw the attendance of old bones of the school, parents, chiefs, sectional heads, queen mothers, departmental heads, the district police commander, immigration officers, the district director of education, political parties, teachers, fire service personnel, former headmaster of the school, the district chief executive for Wa east etc.
