Complete ongoing projects to ease suffering of management and students – headmaster Funsi SHS cries to government

“It is an eye saw to see as many as eight teachers being accommodated in a single apartment”.

Mr. Sulemani Dramani, the headmaster of Funsi senior high school has made a passionate appeal to government through the Upper West regional coordinating council (RCC) under the care of Hon. Steven Yakubu to expedite the early completion of stalled projects initiated by the government in the school in order to alleviate the suffering of the management and students.

The stalled and uncompleted projects in the school include; the girl’s dormitory block, assembly hall complex, and the ultra-modern dining hall.

Mr. Sulemani is optimistic that the ongoing projects when completed will give a face light to the school.

The headmaster emphasized that, the school is seriously constrained in terms of staff accommodation. According to him, less than 5% of the staff are accommodated on campus, adding that there are four bungalows on campus with the headmaster’s residence inclusive.

Mr. Dramani also mentioned that some teachers have decided to perch with their colleagues in anticipation of raising money to rent their own apartment in Funsi town.

“It is an eye saw to see as many as eight teachers being accommodated in a single apartment”.

The head further disclosed that the SHS does not have a female dormitory. Owing to this difficulty, the school’s previous administration turned the main administration building into a dorm to house the girls.

He said the official girl’s dormitory block which was provided by government is about 85% complete but construction has been halted for years. Additionally, Mr. Dramani made hints that the headmaster’s residence is partially occupied by the school accountant and used for administrative purposes as well.

Addressing participants at the climax of the schools tenth anniversary Mr. Sulemani Dramani said the current staff strength of the school stands at 67 of which 51 are teaching staff with only 2 females. The rest he said are non- teaching staff of which 7 are males and the rest females.

Speaking on the school’s enrolment, Mr. Sulemani said that there are 317 students enrolled, 145 of them are boys and 172 of whom are girls.

Mr. Sulemani Dramani commended the government for awarding the school with a six unit classroom block with offices from the Ghana education fund (GETFUND).  According to the head the contractor is at side working feverishly to meet the deadline.

“It is our fervent hope that, the government, philanthropists, non-governmental organizations, and corporate institutions will hear our plight and come to our aid”.
