Emmanuel Dery Kusani, the managing director of Kalba based non-governmental organization Hichale, during a stakeholder engagement with women in Funsi disclosed that, the NGO has been able to secure funds from the German embassy in Ghana to undertake a mini irrigation farm project which will be benefited by women group in Funsi.
The managing director explained that, the main purpose of the project is to empower about forty women to be financially independent. He stated that due to the current weather conditions that women farmers are facing in the northern part of Ghana, it will be an opportunity for the women to strive in the area of farming when the project is completed.
According to Dery Kusani, the stakeholder engagement was to enlighten the women on the technicalities of the project and how it is going to help them as a group. He further mentioned that, the project will be in six phases and the faced one was the stakeholder engagement and feasibility studies.
The mini irrigation project is expected to complete for use by 31st December.

The Hichale director also hinted that. Wiyaala, known in the showbiz as the lioness of Africa who is a board member of Hichale has played a role in bringing the project to the Funsi community.
“Of course, there is always a starting point, like I mentioned earlier, we came to Funsi mainly because of Wiyaala, our collaborations with her”. “So since Wiyaala is in Funsi here, it’s only good that we start from her backyard”.
The director further revealed that they may extend the project to other communities as when the NGO secures another funding from donor partners.

In recent years, Hichale NGO has worked on several projects in Funsi. One of these projects includes renovating the St. John’s Health Centre and equipping it with a cutting-edge delivery bed and lamp. Five volunteer teachers and five beekeepers were also enlisted by the NGO in Funsi.
Mr. Dery said plans are far advanced in recruiting ten females from the ages of 18 and above to engage them in a trade skilled learning program. The beneficiaries are expected to travel to Tamale on 15th September, 2024 to start the skills training.
“We want them to learn a skill that is perceived as male dominanted skills.”
The Program participants will study carpentry, welding, electrical, plumbing, and other skills.
